The national Association of Rivers Trusts held its annual autumn seminar in the Thames region for the first time in 2009. The seminar was co-hosted by TRRT. At the Annual Awards dinner, the first John S Hills Memorial Award was presented by Joan Hills to Mr William Tall, a volunteer with the Wandle Trust.
TRRT had a stand at the 2009 Mayor's Thames Festival held on the South Bank in London.
Global insurance giant RSA is supporting the development of the Mayesbrook Park natural flood management and climate change adaptation project in Barking, east London. TRRT has sponsored another year of free events for farmers and land managers in the Kennet, Pang and Lambourn catchments, to help them reduce any impacts on rivers from their activities. These events will help to keep down pollution and sedimentation in these nationally important chalk streams, which will benefit people and wildlife.
As part of the ARK project to restore the River Kennet through Marlborough, traditional grazing by cattle has been reintroduced.
